OK! So, you're new to World of Warcraft. You are hanging around
Ironforge, and wondering how everyone has these cool items, where they get their
money, and how they level so fast. Here's some quick tips to get you
started on your way!
- Professions - start with gathering
professions only. Wait until you're around level 40 or so to take on a
craft, so you don't waste all your early cash on leveling crafting.
For gathering professions, here's what I recommend:
- Skinning - you kill a lot of animals, make some cash
- Herbalism or Mining - one or the other - they both
give you the ability to see items on your minimap, and you can only set
one of these views at a time, so I take one of these along with
skinning. Either can make you good money.
- Fishing - ALL toons can take fishing, and you can make
some serious money in your 30s and beyond with fishing. Once you
hit fishing 75 or so, and are level 10+, make your way to Menethil
Harbor, and fish for Oily Blackmouths and Firefin Snappers, these sell
for a good price on the Auction House.
- Gear - don't waste cash on gear at
low levels. You need to regear too often, and you end up spending way
too much on gear early on. Use what you find, or look for bargains on
Greens on the Auction House. If you find a blue that can be sold, SELL
IT.
- Experience - Questing is the way to
go to get experience fast. Grinding just for kill XP is not as
effective in World of Warcraft as it is in other games, at least not as
effective as questing. Many quests are grinding quests, but contain a
significant XP bump for the quest (plus all the XP from the grinding).
Hopefully, this will get you started. Now, I recommend you get this as
your first guide:
Thinecron's Gold Guide
eBook, $9.95. This guide is inexpensive, has
some great gold gathering advice, and some power leveling tips.
Once you're more experienced, feel free to come back and look for more
detailed Guide resources here.
